We decided not to find out the gender of our first baby, which was really exciting. It did mean I had the challenge of creating a gender-neutral nursery, which honestly can be a little tricky! I knew I wanted something colorful and cheery and liked the idea of animals. It wasn’t until my mother showed me an ABC sampler she wanted to make for the baby did I consider an ABC animal theme, and once I saw the Animal Alphabet Sheets at Pottery Barn Kids, I was sold and went for it! The sampler was a vintage pattern from 1979 my mom had planned to make when I was born but never found the time, until now!
The dresser and armoire belonged to my father when he was a child, and my sister and I used it while growing up. It is surprisingly in great condition so I was excited to use it for our son. I love the color of the wood and the decorative handles. The nightstand came from my grandmother, and my mom refinished it in a matching finish as a Christmas gift!
The crib is from Pottery Barn Kids from their Kendall Collection. We chose the Chestnut finish, which was the closest match to our furniture. Unfortunately, since then they have changed their color selection and no longer carry Chestnut. Definitely wishing I had bought the matching guardrail when we bought the crib! Ah, well!
I made the crib skirt, elephant pillow, and curtains from fabrics I found at a local quilting store that I thought coordinated well with the Pottery Barn Sheets. The number fabric came from the same store and is part of the Moda Fabrics Collection. I bought it before knowing what I wanted to use it for and wound up covering the two lamp shades with it.
Bugaboo’s nursery is filled with DIY projects. I bought this clock from Target for just $6.99 and painted the letters to match the room’s colors.
The room has a lot of sentimental value for me since we have so many family heirlooms throughout the room. This cross- stitch sampler was made for me by my mother when I was born and hung in my room while growing up. It is such a sweet prayer, I love having it above Bugaboo’s crib.
