Happy New Year! I love starting a new year – it feels like a fresh beginning and a wonderful time to refocus and organize. As with every new year, I find I have many new goals and projects planned. One goal I am trying to pay particular attention to this year is making time to plan ahead on crafts and activities for my kiddos. This is especially important for me in these cold winter months when we are often cooped up indoors. I like to take time each day for our “homeschool preschool” and we love doing crafts and games. I hate scrambling at the last minute, so I’m hoping to stay consistent in setting aside time to plan and prep things.
One activity that we can do each day that is already prepped and ready to go is our Children’s Calendar. I recently shared our new updated version, along with lots of free printables. You can check them out here. We have been using this calendar for over a year and continue to enjoy it! One of my son’s favorite parts is adding our daily activities. This past fall I updated our cards and created a bunch of new ones. We now have 42 cards to choose from!
The 42 activity cards cover sports, hobbies, school-related activities, seasonal activities, doctor visits, as well as visits to local attractions such as the zoo and the museum. The cards feature three different skin tones for “Family Visit”, “Playing with Friends” and “Road Trip”. Each card measures 3″ x 3.25″.
I laminated our cards for extra durability using self-laminating sheets. It was very easy and much cheaper than having them laminated at a printing store. We use them with magnetic clips on our magnetic dry erase board, but you could use them with Velcro dots, create paper pockets or back them with magnetic sheets. They have become a great way for my kids to help plan our day and a great way to teach new vocabulary.
I am in the process of completing holiday cards and am hoping to add them to my Etsy shop as well!
