Hello and Happy Spring Forward! It is much easier to say Happy Fall Back than Happy Spring Forward, loosing that extra hour is a bummer! Ah, well! It is around this time of year that we do some routine things around the house – like checking our smoke detectors, cleaning our dryer vents…all that important stuff!
We always do this “important stuff” at daylight savings time since it is the perfect reminder we need. In October for Fall back, I was on a huge kick to get ourselves organized. We had just attended a local safety fair (so Bugaboo could see the firetrucks!) and it gave me some good ideas for things we could do around our house.
I created an Emergency Contact Sheet to post on our fridge and in Bugaboo’s closet. I had realized we really didn’t have a place where all of this information was kept. I mean, we had a little magnet on our fridge that listed emergency numbers, and when my Mom watched Bugaboo, we told her where we were going and how to reach us – but that was basically it. Luckily, we didn’t have any emergencies because that may not have been enough.
Here is the Emergency Contact Sheet I created. Feel free to download it and use it for yourself or maybe it can be a start for your own.
After visiting the safety fair, we also realized our fire department now recommends there be a fire detector in each bedroom as well as on every level of our home, including the basement. We should also have a carbon monoxide detector on each level of our home, including the basement. When we bought our home, it only had one smoke detector and no carbon monoxide detector! We went ahead and added a smoke detector to our basement and to each bedroom as well as carbon monoxide detectors. So now we are all set! I know recommendations vary for each state. This is just what is recommended for where we live. As someone who follows the manta “better safe than sorry”, I’m glad we added the smoke detectors :)
I’ll be back Thursday to share a fun DIY paper craft with you! Have a good week!
