Good morning! I hope everyone is still having a lovely holiday weekend! Today’s handmade Christmas craft is all about these cute little gingerbread house treat boxes! It’s around this time of year I always find myself needing small gift ideas or fun ways of packaging cookies and treats. These boxes really jazz up a present and with the free printable I’m sharing they are simple to create!
- Free Printable: Gingerbread House Treat Box
- White card stock
- Clear plastic or transparency paper
- Clear or white glitter
- Glue stick
- Scalloped Scissors
- Exacto knife
- Hole punch (not pictured)
Step 1: Print and cut out the box. I originally created the box art by drawing it out, scanning it into photoshop, and using photoshop to color it. You can skip this step and use my free printable patterns. Print out both box patterns on thick card stock. Cut out the boxes. Using your exacto knife, cut out the two windows.
Step 2: Back your windows with clear plastic. The windows are so fun on these boxes because they give the recipients a sneak peak at what’s inside! Cut a square of clear plastic or transparency paper slightly larger than the size of the window. Glue or tape the window to the inside of each box piece.
Step 5: The Roof! To create the scalloped roof, I cut strips of white card stock with my scalloped scissors. I glued them to the room one by one starting at the bottom. The first strip should hang over the edge of the roof. I didn’t worry about the sidea of my roof as I went, letting the strips hang over on each side. Once the strips were all glued down, I went back and cut off whatever was left hanging over the sides. I used a pencil to trace the scallops so they would show up more.
I filled my boxes with holiday-themed sugar cookies and the box worked great! We like to bring our neighbors some of the cookies we bake each year so I’m planning on making a few more of these for that! They’d also look cute filled with holiday candy, a cupcake, and are even a great size for an ornament!
I’ll be back tomorrow with day 4 of “12 Days of a Handmade Christmas”. All this holiday crafting definitely has me in the holiday spirit! Our tree is finally up, our outdoor Christmas lights are on, and I’m in the midst of getting our house decorated on the inside! Stay warm!
