Good morning! As the holidays approach I have thrown together a few last minute projects to help get our home ready! Last month I posted about these Thanksgiving placemats I made. I have the fabric to make similar placemats for Christmas but haven’t gotten around to it. I didn’t think I’d have time this year to make the placemats but knew I could quickly put together a table runner! Since I bought all the supplies for this a couple years ago, it felt good to finally make something with them!
- Center fabric: 1 piece cut 12″ x 71″
- Border fabric: 2 pieces cut 2″ x 73″ and 2 pieces cut 2″ x 14″
- Backing fabric: 1 piece cut 14″ x 73″
- Flannel: 1 piece cut 14″ x 73″
- Matching thread
All seam allowance is 1/2″ and is included in these dimensions. The finished table runner measures 13″ x 72″
STEP 1: Cut all fabric pieces to the dimensions above.
STEP 2: Stitch together the top of the table runner using the center and border pieces. With right sides together, stitch border pieces to the center piece with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Start with the long border pieces and stop your stitching 1/2″ from the bottom of the center piece. Sew short edges on next.
STEP 3: It’s time to sew the top of the table runner to the flannel and back piece. You can first stitch the flannel to the wrong side of the back piece. If you do this, keep your stitch line close to the edge at about 1/4″ so this stitching is in your seam allowance. You could skip this step and sew all three layers together at once. The top and back of the table runner should be right sides together. The flannel should lay against the wrong side of the back piece so it becomes sandwiched in the middle. Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Leave an opening so you can flip the table runner inside out.
All done! I’m so glad I got my act together and made this table runner! It’s so nice to see my Christmas fabric being used rather than sitting in a bin! It adds a lot of color and cheer to our dining room and looks beautiful with our Christmas china. I’ll be posting our completed Holiday table – with our new china, the place card holders I made, and this new table runner, before Christmas! I’ll be back on later this week to share with you the fun crafts I made for the Gingerbread House Party we hosted this past Saturday!
