Good morning! Today I have project number 10 in the 12 Days of a Handmade Holiday – a Kid’s Christmas Stocking Craft! Each year Bugaboo does a craft to give to his family members. I have a lot of fun coming up with something for him to do. Last year we did salt dough ornaments with finger painted boxes and those were a big hit! This year I created stockings for him to color and then thread together. We are filling the stockings with handmade foam ornaments we made together one day and pictures he has painted from his Christmas coloring books.
He had a lot of fun coloring the stockings with crayons, markers and lots of holiday stickers. I wasn’t quite sure how the threading would go over since he hasn’t done anything this large. He got really into it, though, which was great! I think the key was to spread this project out over a couple of days. This way he didn’t get bored or antsy and it stayed fun the whole time, which is really the most important thing! Below is the tutorial and the free printable stockings :)
Supplies Needed for Kid’s Stocking Craft:
- Free printable stocking pages
- Crayons, stickers, markers
- Hole punch
STEP 1: Print the stockings off. You will need a front and a back.
STEP 3: Hole punch each marked dot! Again, if your child is old enough, he can help with this part. Bugaboo had a lot of fun running around grabbing the flying holes as I punched them! He “punched” a few with my help and was really excited!
STEP 4: Decorate the stockings! The fun part! Let your child go to town! Bugaboo had a blast. We decided who each stocking was for before he started, so it was cute to see how he chose to decorate each person’s gift. He colored them before we cut them out, as shown in the picture below, so really you can do these steps in any order. The back of the stockings are blank so we added Jellybean’s handprint! Don’t forget to add your child’s name and the date!
STEP 5: Thread the stocking. I wrapped tape around one end of the yarn and let Bugaboo thread it through. I then punched a few extra holes (not marked on the free printable) along the top of the back piece to tie a bow.
The stockings are all finished and ready to be filled! We filled them with some of the fun Christmas crafts Bugaboo did this month. I’ll let him pass them out to our family members when we see them next week! :)
