Oh, Minnie Mouse! I never thought much about you until having kids and now I’m surrounded by Minnie Mouse apparel and toys and I constantly have the Minnie Mouse theme song – “Welcome to my New Bow-tique” – stuck in my head! Luckily, I don’t mind Minnie Mouse! Polka-dots, pink and red, plus a bow business – I’m a fan! ;) For my daughter’s birthday this year, I created some fun Minnie Mouse DIY party supplies to help make her day special and I thought I’d share them with you today!
Since we had a joint birthday party for my son and daughter this year, and the party was closer to my son’s birthday, I wanted to do something special on my daughter’s actual birthday. I created the Minnie Mouse party hat and then got caught up and made a banner and paper purses as well! Below are the details and tutorials I used. She loved waking up to these fun Minnie Mouse surprises and I had a lot of fun creating them :)
Every year I make my kids party hats, so I made this Minnie Mouse party hat the same way as the others. The complete tutorial can be found here, Paper Party Hat. Since the red and white Minnie Mouse polka-dot paper was a little on the thin side, I layered it over a thicker black cardstock. I added the Minnie Mouse ears and bow to the front and used a white pom pom on top!
I cut the mouse ears and bow with my Cricut – both the ears and bow are available in Cricut Design Space. If you want to create it by hand, you can grab the Mouse ears pattern and my bow pattern at the end of this post. The bow is a little different than pictured, but would still work well :) Instructions for assembling the bow can be found here.
The Minnie Mouse banner was perfect to hang in our dining room. I made it using the same Minnie Mouse ears and bow patterns that I used for the front of the hat. I simply alternated between black paper and the red and white polka-dot papers. I punched holes in the ears and ran white yarn through the banner. I taped the white yarn in place on the back of each mouse ear so they would be evenly spaced.
The purses were made using my Paper Purse pattern. I love the large red and white polka-dot bows on the front! I love making these purses and they look so cute when finished!
A little after I created all of these party crafts, I still had some Minnie Mouse paper to use up. I created these fun Minnie Mouse purse cards that would be perfect as Minnie Mouse invitations. I’ll be posting the how-to and the free pattern I used for these very soon!
Happy Minnie Mouse crafting! :)
