One of my favorite parts of preparing for Thanksgiving is making pies. When I was in high school, I worked at a restaurant baking desserts of all kinds, including lots and lots of pies! The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, a few of us would stay past restaurant close to bake dozens of pies to be picked up on Wednesday. Most orders were for your typical Thanksgiving pies: pumpkin, apple and pecan. I love these classic pies and love making them. They are perfect for autumn and go so well with Thanksgiving dinner.
While I love those classics, my absolute favorite kind of pie is Key lime pie. My husband and I honeymooned in Key West and we both loved the amazing Key lime pie we had while there. I have made it several times since during the summer. I use Martha Stewart’s recipe, and since I can’t always find actual Key limes, I use Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime Juice. It isn’t the exact same as the pie we had in Key West, but it is still amazing! I couldn’t resist making it last year alongside the traditional apple and pumpkin pies. Since I am planning on making it again this year, I decided my tropical pie needed a tropical turkey!
These tropical turkey toppers are so fun! They are the same turkeys I used last year on my cupcakes, but they have been given a little tropical flare! If you are like me and happen to love Key lime pie – or any other summery, tropical pie – go ahead and add them to your Thanksgiving menu along with these cute toppers! They were a breeze to make and you can download the free printable below. Happy pie baking!!
Supplies Needed for Tropical Turkey Thanksgiving Pie Toppers:
- Free printable: Tropical Turkey Toppers
- Paper – I printed these on 110lb bright white paper
- Glue stick or tape runner
Download and print the free printable of turkey toppers. Cut the toppers out, keeping the back of the wings connected at the bottom. You can cut out around each feather, or leave the white in between.
Fold the turkeys together, right sides out. Glue or tape them together with a toothpick in between. They are all set!
Writing this post has me craving Key lime pie!! Luckily, I won’t have to wait too long! If you know you will have leftovers, as I always do, create these fun paper pie boxes to send guests home with a special treat. I’ll be back next week to kick off Christmas crafting on the blog! I have a bunch of great DIY projects with free patterns and printables I am so excited to share with you! While I did make time to do a little Thanksgiving crafting, I was definitely doing it to Christmas music :)
