Hello and welcome! My name is Kimberly and I am excited to be starting this blog as a way to share my ideas and projects! I have wanted to start a blog for quite some time and am happy it is finally underway!
Let me take this first post to tell you a little about myself! I have always loved art, sewing, designing, drawing – basically anything that allows me to be creative. Since I was a child, if I wasn’t outside or playing with my sister, I was usually drawing something. Whether it was designing clothes for my dolls or drawing out my dream home, I have loved creating things. Naturally, when it was time to go to college and choose a career, I was lucky to find one I believe encompasses everything I love – costume design!
I went to undergrad and studied theater design, including costumes, lighting, and scenery, and loved costuming so much I went on to grad school to receive my MFA in costume design. The career itself isn’t very common. When I tell most people what I do, they raise an eyebrow and say, “Wow, what fun!” This is true! While in school, I learned so many amazing things like costume construction, millinery, fabric dying and manipulation, couture sewing techniques, and costume distressing, as well as the design aspect of the job, including painting, composition, and fabric. After graduating I was a freelance designer until my first son was born in March 2013.
After my son was born (my husband and I have nicknamed him Bugaboo because of the mischief he gets into constantly), I decided to take time off from work, only doing a show here and there, and stay at home with Bugaboo. So far it has been a wonderful adventure! I did, though, need an outlet for all the creative energy I have that wasn’t being put into designing shows anymore – so I started crafting things for my son and our new home! I hope that through this blog I will be able to provide you with fun ideas and tutorials on everything from nursery decorations to holiday ideas. I do have a special section planned for the blog to show some costume ideas for kids and families, so be sure to check that out in a little while when I have a chance to post things there!
This blog is named after my son, as you have probably figured out. My husband and I joke constantly that we live in “Bugaboo City” because it feels like he runs the place with his crazy antics! I find him to be constant inspiration and love how fun life is watching him explore it!
So thank you for following along and feel free to comment or email me if you see something on the site you’d like more information on! Tomorrow we’ll get started with a look at Bugaboo’s nursery!
